Water Stone Salon and Spa in Austin Review

A full, healthy head of hair is one of the ultimate displays of youth and physical beauty.  Unfortunately until last weekend, my hair was anything but that.  My postpartum hair loss has reached epic proportions this time around.  Unlike one of my girlfriends, with Cakes I lost a lot of hair but never really worried that I was going bald or that something was seriously wrong.  This time around something has just seemed off.  My youngest daughter is now 6.5 months old and I’m just now starting to see the hair loss abate a little.

With losing so much hair this time around, I’ve been trying to spare the hair I do have left from anything that would cause it to fall out too.  That’s left me without a haircut and highlights for five months and my remaining hair to look damaged and unhealthy.

I finally had enough of my hair looking fried and unkept and scheduled an appointment to take care of my tresses and update my look.  Last Saturday I tried out a new salon – WaterStone Salon and Spa in Austin – and met who shaped up my hair and brought new life to my highlights.

As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted by the smiling receptionist and offered a beverage before taking a seat.  The waiting area backs Guadalupe Street and is an open space filled with natural light so you can really see how your hair will look on the outside.   I only waited a few minutes before my stylist, Hailey, introduced herself and sat me down to talk about my hair.  We chatted about my postpartum hair issues – not only hair loss but breakage and split ends.  And after discussing my issues with prior highlights, my current needs and expectations, she got to work mixing up a couple of different highlight colors for me.

Although I’m blaming the long wait between hair appointments on my fragile hair, the truth is that’s only part of it.  The other issue I have is getting highlights takes so long.  I just put off spending that much time away from my family as long as I possibly can.  Even with hair that feels at least 50% thinner to me, my visit was 3.5 hours from start to finish.  But it was so worth it – my hair looks and feels great!  It looks shiny, healthy, and has really woken up my face.

Before (L) and After (R)

If you’re a stay-at-home mom like I am and don’t have a lot of options when it comes to scheduling your appointments, you’ll love all the perks at Water Stone Salon and Spa.  They’re open on Mondays which is rare for a hair salon.  In fact, of all the professional salons I’ve visited this is the first time I’ve seen Monday hours.  And even better, they offer child care for $5 per child!  You can have your alone time being pampered and feel secure knowing your children are nearby.

Schedule your next appointment online at WaterStone Salon and Spa, check out all of the great reviews on Yelp, and don’t forget to visit the salon’s Pinterest board where you can find boards for each stylist.
