Wordless Wednesday: Exploring Lakeway Texas

A few weeks ago after picking Cakes up from summer camp instead of heading straight home, we decided to go exploring in the Texas Hill Country!  Like a lot of people, we usually take the fastest and most direct route whenever we’re in the car.  We don’t spend nearly enough time getting to know all of the side streets in Lakeway and Austin surrounding Lake Travis.

We didn’t venture very far off our usual route but did see some interesting things along the way.  One of our turns in Lakeway ended up being a dead end but had a pretty great view of Lake Travis.  While the drought has effected all of Texas and other local lakes like Lake Austin below Lake Travis, to see just how much the water has receded in a large space like Lake Travis is so sad.  It definitely makes me think twice about how much water our family consumes.

Do you ever go exploring down roads you haven’t driven before?

  1. We love to explore the back roads, our area lakes are down this year too, it’s not pretty :(

  2. We love being on the lake… it is sad how low it is!!

  3. I’m often exploring streets that I haven’t been on before – because I’ve taken a wrong turn! Getting “lost” often leads you to exciting & fun places!

The photo of the lake is so sad, it’s hard to imagine that it could recede so much.

  4. Looks like such a beautiful place to explore.

  5. We are exploring more because we are new to the area. It’s fun!

  6. I had no idea it was that bad. :/

  7. Sounds like a great place to vacation sucks the water level is so low though.

  8. We definitely need to explore the area more too. Especially before winter starts! So sad that the lake is that low. :(

  9. When I’m not in a hurry, I love sight-seeing.

  10. I don’t do much exploring around with I’m by myself. But when I’m with the hubs I like venturing off.

  11. YES! When me and hubby and kids are out and about and don’t have a time limit, we LOVE doing this sort of thing. It is really a fun time for us all and a great bonding time too :)

  12. I love sight-seeing!

  13. Gorgeous. I love exploring new places. During the summer we spend a lot of time exploring the cape (Cape Cod) since we live so close and this picture reminds me a lot of the cape.

  14. I love driving around and taking back roads. Of course we did it more when gas was cheaper!

  15. I love Austin and this picture is so pretty!

  16. We just moved to Austin in January so I try and take the long route to learn where things are. I usually get lost and turned around but the kids are usually napping in the backseat so it gives me a little thinking/exploring/quiet time while I find my way back. Life is all about the adventure right? :)

  17. I **Think** that’s MY marinia … My boat is there :) . Is it off Stuart Road?!

  18. I’ve always enjoyed exploring new roads and I’ve discovered some really wonderful spots along the way. Even though it’s sad to see the water level so low, you’ve captured the beauty of the earth’s layers in this picture.

  19. What a nice view!
