I love this time of year! For me fall and Halloween usher in holiday season and a magical time of year. While I’ve always loved holidays, having little ones makes me enjoy things even more as I see the excitement in their eyes with each new experience.
This year we decided to make some memories and celebrate fall by visiting Barton Hill Farms.
Visiting Barton Hill Farms makes for a fun day trip. You can feel you’re fully escaping the city of Austin as you journey a short distance out east of the Austin airport. The unseasonably cool weather we’ve been having lately made for the perfect weather to enjoy our family’s first pumpkin patch and corn maze!
After the car ride, Cakes was eager to get out and start taking in all the activities of this autumn wonderland. She started by swinging on a hay barrel rope swing before moving over to the sunken pirate ship (“the Lively, Stephen F. Austin’s lost sailing ship fabled to be taken by pirates, lost at sea, or perhaps even shipwrecked on the high banks of the Colorado River outside Bastrop.”) We stopped at a centrally located concession stand to pick up some water and locally brewed Bastrop Beer before continuing to tour the rest of pumpkin strewn property.
Last stop – the 5-acre corn maze. I became disoriented and felt so small lost among the tall stalks of corn. Luckily, at the start of the maze there is a selection of themed clues (Halloween, American History, and a Kiddie version to name a few) to help guide you safely through. Even with four adults, we made a couple of wrong turns by choosing the American History clues but otherwise enjoyed all 10 turns in this mammoth maze.
It was such a fun day and memorable experience for the whole family and is definitely the start of a fall family tradition!

How do you create memories to celebrate fall?

That is the cutest picture of your daughter. It looks like a great place to spend the day.
What a great place to visit. I, too, love this time of year. The photo at dusk is absolutely gorgeous! I’d hang it on my wall.
I’ve been meaning to visit BHF! It looks fun!
I love her hat and shirt! Burnt orange is beautiful – especially on a cutie like Cakes. (And, it looks like a great place to bring the family!)
That corn maze looks insane! It sounds like a fun way to spend a weekend afternoon. I love the photo of Cakes too!
Looks like you guys had a fun day! We did a corn maze last month and got lost inside there for way too long. It was hot that day and we were all miserable by the time we found our way out. We’re going to our local zoo on Sunday night for their spooky halloween event, so my kids are really looking forward to that.
What a fun day! The maze photo looks so intricate, and that photo of cakes is simply gorgeous…she is so lovely and charming! Perfect for a Christmas photo. I remember she used to be a bit camera shy, and now she is so open, with great results!
How do we create memories? We try to do fun things and I of course take my camera to capture firsts!
such a cute picture of her! we have a place here called Millburn Orchard that we go to when it gets cooler and it has a petting zoo of farm animals, tons of pumpkins, fresh apple cider and apple cider doughnuts! you can pick fresh apples and take home bushels! it’s a lot of fun
i’m sure it would be even more fun with kiddos
Looks like a ton of fun was had!
Cakes looks too cute with her little pumpkin! We have never done a corn maze, it does sound like a ton of fun and that one looks huge!
I get information from them, but have never been. I wish we lived closer.
How fun!
