Although I turned 30 just a few short weeks ago, I’ve already crossed something off of my list of things never done before. I carved my first pumpkin! And my second! Check out the pumpkins my husband and I carved into jack-o-lanterns!
My husband’s a pro at carving intricate jack-o-lanterns, so I’m sure you can tell he did the big Thomas the Tank Engine pumpkin. Mine are the other two. I did the middle one first to get a feel for things before moving on to Bruce from Finding Nemo.
Before I started I was certain I was going to butcher the pumpkins but now I’m thinking I didn’t do too badly. Surprisingly my only war wound is a bruise on the back of my forearm from scooping out the insides.
Am I the only one that waited 30 years before attempting to carve a pumpkin? What kind of jack-o-lanterns do you have?

You are not the only one to wait to carve a pumpkin. At 28 I’m still a carving virgin! A part of me is afraid of doing a botched up job even though I’d have a picture to trace onto the pumpkin before taking a knife to it. I must sound so silly.

My husband loves to carve fancy pumpkins. I’ve carved enough in my life, and I can’t say I enjoy doing it, lol. Yours look great!

wow, those are seriously impressive! What did you use to carve? Please don’t tell me those carving packs sold in stores because that flimsy saw thing literally snapped in half when I was caving last week
I actually started out using this carving kit my husband picked up at the hardware store but after hacking away at the skull pumpkin forever, I decided to try the store bought kit and it worked. Shockingly the flimsy saw thing managed to make carving easier for me than a sharp blade and has been used on at least a dozen pumpkins now.
well then. lol. I guess I was just too strong for the one I had. Yeah, we’ll go with that.

Funny, I did the exact same Thomas for one of our pumpkins. Then I did a batman symbol, and a buzz lightyear. Finally I finished up with a big island themed skull. But Hurricane Sandy ruined them going outside.
You did a really great job with the pumpkins.
Those are pretty awesome I can’t carve to save my life. Funny thing is that I can draw pretty well but it just doesn’t translate over to pumpkin.
