The holidays may be over but that doesn’t mean that it’s time to forget about your goodwill towards men and all of the random acts of kindness that made you feel good just a few short weeks ago. Instead this should be an opportunity to extend those warm and fuzzy feelings and integrate giving back to others as part of your lifestyle year round.
Lucky for us all there’s an easy way to give back that’s nearly effortless. As I mentioned last week by purchasing Unilever products when shopping for everyday items like soap, lotion, peanut butter, and tea bags you can help Unilever’s continued efforts to Cross Off Hunger through Feeding America. Feeding America is the nation’s largest organization dedicated to fighting domestic hunger through a network of food banks. $1 = 8 meals secured by Feeding America on behalf of local food banks. Unilever will donate $250,000 – the monetary equivalent of a minimum of 2 million meals will be donated. Just think of the impact that will make and all of the hungry mouths that will be filled!
Unilever’s dedication to giving back doesn’t end with Feeding America. Instead, Unilever has created a sustainable living plan involving three main concepts:
- Improved Health and Well Being.
- Reduced Environmental Impact.
- Enhanced Livelihoods.
Throughout the year, I try to find ways to give back to organizations and individuals around me from monetary donations to perishable/toiletry items. For my family’s part in giving back in the new year, I’ve purchased Unilever products that I’ll be donating to a local food bank through my daughter’s preschool. My daughter’s preschool collects items for Austin area food banks twice a month – once for non-perishable goods and the other for health and hygiene items.
I decided to purchase Unilever products for our January donation so that it would not only benefit Feeding America but also our local food bank. Since spreads are among the most in demand items for food banks because they are such a kid-friendly source of protein, I decided to assemble jars of Skippy Natural Peanut Butter and jelly for my donation. I was pleased to find some jelly and Skippy Natural Peanut Butter which does not have any high fructose corn syrup or other added ingredients. I know that if my daughter enjoys Skippy Natural Peanut Butter other kids will enjoy it too!
For the second part of our donation, we’ll be giving health and hygiene items to increase health and well being of the members of our community. As a woman, I know the importance of feeling clean and smelling good for not only health but self confidence. Products from Unilever brands such as Vaseline, Dove, and Degree all smell good and help to ensure that local citizens that are down on their luck can not only take care of their health but feel a little better about themselves in the process.
My commitment to supporting our local food bank through biweekly food bank donations is only a small part in helping Cross Off Hunger but it’s the little things that help make a big difference.
